Explore Audio Transcription [Experimental Feature]

Goodnotes 6 now supports transcribing what you record, freeing you from listening repeatedly to take notes. You can see the transcription in real-time while recording and the transcript anytime. Plus, you can copy and paste the transcript directly into your notes!

Manage Transcription

Download Transcription Model

To use Audio Transcription, you need to download and install the model.

  1. After recording an audio clip, open the sidebar by clicking the Audio Transcription icon on the top-left

  2. When you choose Download Model button, Goodnotes will begin the download process.

After downloading and installing, Audio Transcription will be ready to use from the next recording.

 ℹ️ Transcription Models and its size

  • English Model (about 300MB) 

Toggle Audio Transcription on Document

In Document view, you can easily turn Audio Transcription on or off. This setting applies to all documents.

  1. Open the sidebar by clicking the Audio Transcription icon on the top-left

  2. Click the three-dot icon on top-right of the sidebar

  3. Toggle the switch for Use Transcript

 ℹ️ Audio transcription is currently available only on A15 / M1 devices or later:

  • iPhone 

    • iPhone 13 and above
    • iPhone SE 3rd generation
    • requires iOS 17 and above

    iPad 

    • iPad Pro (M1 and above)
    • iPad Air (M1 and above)
    • iPad Mini 6th generation
    • requires iPadOS 17 and above

How to use Transcripts

Open / Hide the Sidebar

You can toggle the sidebar by clicking the Play Back icon or Audio Transcription icon. The Audio Transcription icon appears only during recording or playing audio clips.

Record with real-time Transcription

When Audio Transcription is turned on, you can see real-time transcription at the sidebar. To stop transcription, toggle Using Transcript button on the More menu.

Play audio with Transcripts

If you record with Audio Transcription, you can see the transcripts when you play back the recordings with the current section highlighted.

You can also play where you want easily by clicking the transcript you want to listen. Quickly skim through the transcript and click and play the parts you want to focus on.

💡 If you have existing transcriptions or shared recordings, you can use this feature on other devices.

Edit and Share Transcripts

Edit Transcripts

  • Long-press a transcript until menu opens and click Edit

Delete Transcripts

  • Long-press the sentence until menu opens and click Delete

Copy Transcripts

  • Long-press the sentence until menu opens and click Copy
  • If you want to copy the whole transcripts, click the 3 dot icon on top-right of sidebar and click Copy All

💡 You can copy and paste transcripts easily by drag and drop. Long-press an transcript until it floats, then drag it to a note. You can paste it on other applications too.

Share Transcripts

  • Long-press the sentence until menu opens and click Share
  • If you want to copy the whole transcripts, click the 3 dot icon on top-right of sidebar and click Share.

Supported Languages

Audio Transcription currently supports English only, but we continue to work on adding more languages. Here are a few ones already planned:

  • 普通话 - Mandarin
  • 日本語 - Japanese
  • 한국어 - Korean
  • Deutsch - German
  • Español - Spanish
  • Français - French
  • Nederlands - Dutch
  • Italiàno - Italian
