We get it—sometimes, things don't go as planned. Maybe you accidentally deleted that note you worked so hard on, or you decided that lecture notes from last semester aren't really needed anymore. Whatever the case, we've got you covered with our trusty Trash Bin.
What Is the Trash Bin?
Think of the Trash Bin as your safety net. This means you can retrieve anything that’s been accidentally deleted, giving you peace of mind.
How to Move Items to the Trash Bin
To Move a Notebook or Folder to the Trash Bin:
- In Documents view, Tap the down arrow below the notebook or folder thumbnail.
- Select "Move to Trash" and confirm your choice.
Note: If you move a shared document to the Trash Bin, others will lose access, and it will be removed from all their devices. So double-check before you hit that confirm button!
To Move a Page to the Trash Bin:
- Open the sidebar of the document.
- Tap the "More" button [...] next to the page you want to delete.
- Select "Move to Trash" and confirm.
How to Access the Trash Bin
Ready to dig into the Trash Bin? Here’s how:
-
Find the Trash Bin: On the left sidebar, you'll see the Trash icon.
-
Browsing the Trash Bin: Tapping on the Trash icon. You’ll see a list of everything you’ve deleted—notes, pages, even entire notebooks. Each item is labeled with the date it was deleted, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.
-
Sorting Items in the Trash Bin: Want to find something quickly? You can easily sort items by Date, Name, or Type by selecting the "Sort by" option at the top.
Recovering Deleted Items
Accidentally deleted something? No worries—we’ve got your back!
- Access the Trash Bin: Tap on the Trash icon in the sidebar to see all your deleted items.
- Restore It: Tap the down arrow under the item’s thumbnail and select "Recover." Your item will return to where it was before!
Tip: Can’t seem to find the restored item? Check the root folder in Documents view — they might have been recovered there if the original parent folder is still in the Trash Bin.
Emptying the Trash Bin
Ready to do some housekeeping? You can empty the Trash Bin or permanently delete individual items whenever you like. Just remember, once something is deleted from the Trash Bin, it’s gone for good—so make sure you’re absolutely certain before taking this step!
- Delete Individual Items: Tap the down arrow under the item’s thumbnail and choose "Delete Permanently."
- Select Items to Delete Permanently: Tap "Select" in the Trash Bin, choose the items you no longer need, and then tap "Delete Permanently."
- Empty the Whole Trash Bin: If you're ready for a clean slate, you can empty the entire Trash Bin at once by tapping the "Empty" button at the top of the screen. Everything in there will be permanently deleted.
Important: Deleting a folder will delete all items within it, and deleting a notebook will also delete all its pages.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Reminders for Offline Mode: If you see the message "Some items may require an internet connection to appear," just go online to let those items sync to the Trash Bin. It might take a little time for notebooks and folders to fully synchronize and show up.
- Quota Limit for Free Version: Items in the Trash Bin still count toward your 3-notebook quota on the free version. You can permanently delete items or empty the Trash Bin to free up some quota!
