If the existing templates within GoodNotes are not quite what you are looking for, GoodNotes 5 gives you the flexibility to import your own custom templates.
Every PDF page or image can be added to the GoodNotes template library as a custom cover or paper template. This way, you can personalize your notebooks even more. A template will be available whenever you create a new notebook or page.
Add templates
- Tap the Gear icon in the top-right corner of the Library view > Notebook Templates.
- Tap the first dropdown list to choose the template size for your custom templates.
- The next step will depend on if you are adding a new custom cover, or a new page template:
- If adding as custom covers: tap the Default Cover preview in the upper section.
- If adding as custom papers: tap the Default Paper preview.
- You will see several categories with built-in templates in the lower section. To add your templates to a specific category, scroll to the end of the list in that category and tap "+ Import" > From Photos/Files. You can also create your own category by tapping the plus icon next to Edit in the top-right corner.
Note: For best results, add a PDF instead of an image. For example, add an A5-sized PDF instead of an image having the same dimensions in pixels of the A5 paper.
- If you select "From Files," you can then tap "Select" in the Files interface, select all your templates and tap Open.
Note: If you add a multi-page PDF as a custom template, only its first page is added.
Remove templates (including built-in)
- Tap the Gear icon in the top-right corner of the Library view > Notebook Templates.
- This next step will depend on if you're removing a cover, or a paper template:
- If removing covers: tap the Default Cover preview in the upper section.
- If removing papers: tap the Default Paper preview.
- Tap "Edit" in the upper right.
- Select the templates you want to remove.
- Tap the Trash icon in the upper left.
