Duplication of your documents happens when you migrated your documents from GoodNotes 4 to GoodNotes 5 on multiple devices that each sync with the same iCloud account.
You opened GoodNotes 5 on your iPad and the app prompts you to migrate your documents from 4 to 5. After the migration is completed, the data will upload to iCloud, which may take a moment initially, depending on your library size.
If you open GoodNotes 5 on another device (for example your iPhone) and have GoodNotes 4 installed as well, you will see the prompt to migrate your data as well. However, you should also see the following alert:
If you choose to continue, you'll end up with having the same data set on each device. Both will upload to iCloud. This means the documents from your iPhone will download on the iPad and vice versa. iCloud treats these documents as completely different files and doesn't recognize that they are actually the same.
There are two ways of solving this situation.
If you still have all your documents in GoodNotes 4 and you do not have any documents you need to keep in GoodNotes 5 follow the steps below:
- Delete GoodNotes 5 from your devices
- Open the iOS Settings app and navigate to iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > GoodNotes 5
- Use the option to "delete all documents and data"
- Reinstall GoodNotes 5 on your device
- Migrate your documents again on one device only. The files will sync across your device via iCloud
If you have documents in GoodNotes 5 that you need to keep and/or don't have all documents in GoodNotes 4 anymore you will need to manually delete the duplicates from your GoodNotes 5 library. You will need to do that on one device only because they changes will sync across your devices via iCloud.
