Background
Duplication of your documents might happen when you migrate your GoodNotes 4 documents to GoodNotes 5 on multiple devices that sync with the same iCloud account.
Example:
You open GoodNotes 5 on your iPad and the app prompts you to migrate your GoodNotes 4 documents. After the migration is completed, the data will upload to iCloud, which may take a moment initially, depending on your library size. If you then open GoodNotes 5 on another iOS device (say, your iPhone) that has GoodNotes 4 installed as well, you will also see the migration prompt, plus the following alert:
If you choose to continue, you'll end up with the same data set on each device. Both will upload to iCloud. This means the documents from your iPhone will download to the iPad and vice versa. iCloud treats these documents as completely different although they are actually the same.
Removing duplicates
There are two ways of resolving this situation.
If you still have all your documents in GoodNotes 4 and do not have anything to keep in GoodNotes 5:
- Delete GoodNotes 5 from both your devices.
- Open the iOS Settings app and tap Your_Name (at the top) > iCloud > Manage Storage > GoodNotes 5 > Delete Data.
- Reinstall GoodNotes 5 on your devices.
- Migrate your documents again on one device only. The files will sync across your devices via iCloud.
If you have documents in GoodNotes 5 that you need to keep and/or don't have all documents in GoodNotes 4 anymore, you will need to manually delete the duplicates from your GoodNotes 5 library. You will need to do that on one device only because the changes will sync across your devices via iCloud.
