It could happen that your iPad model can install GoodNotes 5 but does not support Apple Pencil. We strongly recommend using the Apple Pencil for the best note-taking experience, however not all iPads will be functional with the Apple Pencil, as such, here is a list of the devices that are compatible with both Apple Pencil 1st & 2nd generation:

- iPad Pro 9.7in (1st gen, 2016)
- iPad Pro 12.9in (1st gen, 2015)
Apple Pencil 2 works with the following iPads:

- iPad Air 4 (2020)
- iPad Mini 6 (2021)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch/11-inch 6th gen (2022)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch/11-inch 5th gen (2021)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch/11-inch 4th gen (2020)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch/11-inch 3rd gen (2018)
The following models can't use Apple Pencil (first or second generation):

Logitech Crayon works with all iPads model above that were released in 2018 or later.
