Is personal data (handwriting/notebook content) used to train AI features?

Goodnotes assures users that it does not access or collect data from their notebooks to train its AI features. However, users of Goodnotes can voluntarily submit their data through ‘Feature Feedback’ under section 3.7.1. Goodnotes may use this information to improve its services, but only if it is submitted voluntarily.

For AI typing feature, we do not use your data to train AI models and we do not store the data in our servers except the case you explicitly put the document in our cloud. Any selected text you send via AI typing will be shared with our partners for the sole purpose of providing you with AI typing features.

AI handwriting features like Spellcheck that are based on our proprietary ML model are run entirely on device and the data is not sent anywhere so no one - including Goodnotes - can access it.

How can you contribute to improving Goodnotes AI features?

We’re always looking for ways to improve the accuracy and performance of our AI features. One way you can help is by providing feedback on problematic outputs. If you see any content/behaviour that is incorrectly processed, please let us know by providing feedback through our Contact Form.

Legal and Privacy Questions regarding Goodnotes AI

Is personal data (handwriting/notebook content) used to train AI features?

Goodnotes does not access or collect data from your Notebooks to train its AI features. However, users can voluntarily submit data through our ‘Feature Feedback’ as detailed in section 1.2.6 of our terms and conditions here. AI handwriting and processing features such as Spellcheck are based on our proprietary machine learning models, are run entirely on the device and the data is not sent anywhere, so no one - including Goodnotes can access it. The Ask Goodnotes feature uses an external LLM called Claude through Amazon Bedrock to provide the question and the answer aspects of Ask Goodnotes. However, all data is stored in private AWS servers, so your conversation log will not be shared with any third-party LLMs or used by third parties to train or improve their models unless you voluntarily submit this. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.

What happens to my conversation log when I use Ask Goodnotes?

Goodnotes retains your outputs and inputs for 30 days. Goodnotes will not have access to your data unless you voluntarily decide to share this feedback with us, opt-in to share your conversation logs or make a customer support request requiring us to access the conversation logs for troubleshooting purposes. This data is stored on AWS servers; you may request the erasure of your inputs and outputs before the 30 days is over. Please see our FAQs for our Privacy Policy for more information and how to exercise these rights here.

Does Goodnotes access to the users Library if Ask Goodnotes is used?

No, Goodnotes does not access users Library when using any of the Goodnotes AI features or Ask Goodnotes. Your Library is stored on your device or backed up to your chosen cloud service.
