What’s Goodnotes AI for Math?

Goodnotes AI for Math is an AI-powered learning assistant that leverages Wolfram|Alpha LLM API to provide personalized math support in Goodnotes.

Goodnotes AI for Math consists of two main components:

  • Solve: Provides comprehensive, detailed solutions with complete breakdowns of each solving step.
  • Teach Me: Offers guided assistance focused on understanding concepts and building problem-solving skills.

Input Math Problems

Goodnotes AI offers several ways to input problems and learn math:

  • Write math problems by hand.
  • Type equations and formulas using LaTeX in Goodnotes AI, along with any solving instructions you need.

Tip: LaTeX is a mathematical markup language that allows you to write complex mathematical equations and formulas using plain text. It uses special commands and syntax to format mathematical expressions in a professional and precise way. For example, using LaTeX notation you can write equations like x^2 + y^2 = r^2 or \frac{dx}{dy} to get $x^2 + y^2 = r^2$ or $\frac{dx}{dy}$. Learn more about LaTeX.

  • Import a PDF, e.g. a worksheet, that contains math problems.

Get Step-by-Step Solutions to a Math Problem

  1. Use the lasso tool to select the problem.
  2. Choose the Goodnotes AI icon from the Object Menu (or from the Nav Bar).
  3. Choose Solve, or type your request, like “How do I solve this?”

  4. (Optional) Choose the Edit icon next to each detected equation to correct it in LaTeX

Detected math question from a PDF page
  1. If all looks good, choose Continue to confirm the input and task.
  2. Interact with the response to get the help you need. For example:
    • Expand a step to see how it’s done.
    • Reveal the answer.
    • Choose a quick followup action, e.g. an alternative solving method, or ask anything about the solution.

Learn Through Guided Practice

  1. Choose Teach Me, or type your request, like “Can you teach me how to do this?”
  2. (Optional) Choose the Edit icon next to each detected equation to correct it in LaTeX

  4. Interact with the response to get the help you need. For example:
    • Choose how you want to solve the problem

    • Follow the hint and answer its question.
    • If you need help, ask to explain the hint better.
    • If you’re stuck, move on to the next hint, or see the full answer for the shown hint.

Best Practices

  • Write math equations with clear spacing and distinct symbols for better recognition and solving accuracy.
  • Use Solve for detailed solutions, Teach Me for concept understanding.
  • Regular practice with different problems builds mastery.
