Import and manage custom notebook templates

Add a PDF or image to the Goodnotes template library as a custom cover or paper template. Imported templates are then available when you create a notebook or add a page.

Import a template on Apple devices

1. Open the Goodnotes menu in the top-right corner of Library view.
2. Select “Manage Notebook Templates”.
3. Choose the template type:
   • For a cover, enable Cover and select the COVER thumbnail.
   • For paper, select the PAPER thumbnail.
4. Choose the size, color where available, and orientation used to categorize the template.
5. Under the destination template group, scroll to the end and select Import > From Photos or From Files.
6. Select the PDF or image. For the clearest result, use a PDF with the intended page dimensions.

Import a template on Android, Windows, or Web

1. Open the Goodnotes menu in Library view.
2. Select Manage Notebook Templates.
3. Select the COVER or PAPER thumbnail.
4. Choose the size, color where available, and orientation.
5. Select Edit > Create new group.
6. Select “+ Import Template” and choose a PDF or image.
7. Select Cover or Paper, then choose the custom group.

Create a template group

In Manage Notebook Templates, select Edit, scroll to the bottom, and select Create new group. Use groups to separate custom covers or papers by purpose, size, or style.

Create a template from an existing page

1. Open the page and select Share and Export > Export This Page.
2. Choose PDF and select the Flattened PDF type.
3. Save the PDF to Files or another accessible storage location.
4. Import the exported PDF using the relevant steps above.

Delete a custom template

1. Open Goodnotes menu > Manage Notebook Templates.
2. Select the COVER or PAPER thumbnail.
3. Select Edit.
4. Select the templates to remove, then select Delete or the Trash icon.
