Goodnotes is ending support for older system versions to ensure optimal performance, security, and integration with the latest technologies.
Minimum Supported Versions
To receive the latest features, security updates, and bug fixes, please update your device:
iPadOS: Update to iPadOS 18.7 or later (Settings > General > Software Update)
macOS: Update to macOS 15.7 or later (System Settings > General > Software Update)
If your device cannot update to these versions, you may need to upgrade your hardware to receive future app updates.
How to update your system software
iPadOS: Open the Settings app, tap General > Software Update and see if you can bring your device software up to date to iPadOS 18.7 or later. macOS: Open System Settings > General > Software Update and see if you can bring your system up to macOS 15.7 or later.
If your system software can't be updated, we highly recommend upgrading your device to ensure you can get all future updates of the app.
What Happens If You Stay on an Older OS Version?
Current Access: You can continue using your existing Goodnotes app without interruption.
No Future Updates: You will no longer receive bug fixes, performance improvements, or new features.
Potential Sync Issues: Cloud features like iCloud Sync and Auto Backup may become unreliable over time as sync infrastructure is updated.
Does this change affect GoodNotes 5 users?
- If you downloaded the last version of GoodNotes 5 (v5.9.127) and bought the GoodNotes 5 one-time purchase before the Goodnotes 6 launch (Aug 8, 2023), you can keep using that version as normal, but you will not receive future bug fixes and improvements to the app. For the best note-taking experience, we recommend installing the latest version of Goodnotes on the App Store, and switch back to the GoodNotes 5 experience right within the app. See Downgrade to GoodNotes 5.
- If you've upgraded to the latest Goodnotes app but have been using the GoodNotes 5 experience in the app, you'll still need to meet this new iOS/iPadOS/macOS requirement in order to update the app and get potential improvements to your GoodNotes 5 experience.
