Real-time collaboration lets multiple people work together on the same shared document and see changes appear instantly. Our real-time collaboration supports a "Live Cursor" feature, which is different from standard sharing because you can see exactly where other collaborators are writing or editing in the document as it happens, making teamwork seamless.
Note: Every Goodnotes user can share a document and collaborate with others at the same time, but with Goodnotes Pro or AI Pass, we’ve introduced lightning-fast real-time collaboration that lets you see every edit, sketch, and annotation from your team instantly.
What you need
A shared document that at least one participant opens with an active Goodnotes Pro subscription
How it works
- Real-time Collaboration turns on automatically when a Goodnotes Pro subscriber opens the shared document
- Participants who open the document after the Goodnotes Pro subscriber will have real-time updates enabled
- Participants who already had the document open before the Goodnotes Pro subscriber should close and reopen it to join the real-time session
Participant limits
- Up to 50 participants can collaborate in real time at once
- There is no overall limit on total document participants
- Participants beyond the first 50 can still work in the document and will see it sync regularly, but they will not see real-time cursor presence or instant updates
Tips to get everyone into the Real-time session
- Ask the Goodnotes Pro subscriber to open the document first
- If someone doesn’t see other cursors or instant updates, have them close and reopen the document
FAQ
Why don’t I see other people’s cursors?
You may have opened the document before the Goodnotes Pro subscriber, or the real-time participant limit has been reached. Close and reopen the document to try again.
Can non‑Goodnotes Pro users collaborate in real time?
Yes. As long as at least one participant with Goodnotes Pro has the document open, others who open the document afterward will be in the real-time session.
What happens when there are more than 50 people?
Everyone can still work in the document. After the first 50 real-time participants, additional people will see periodic syncs instead of instant updates and presence.
