What is Smart Learn?

"Smart Learning Mode" (or "Smart Learn") is an amazing tool to help you get the most out of your Study Sets. Smart Learn has been designed with a variety of scientific principles around how people learn best, in order to ensure that Learn can offer the best tools to help you study effectively.

How Does Smart Learn Work?

Smart Learn uses an advanced spaced repetition system (SRS) to space out your practice over time, which is a scientifically proven method to improve long-term memorisation of topics. The system will use your performance in your Study Sets to adjust what you'll see next.

For example, cards that you have struggled with in previous sessions will be more likely to show up in the next one, and ones that you are confident on will show up less frequently (of course, they will still pop-up from time-to-time to ensure that the answer is still in memory). Additionally, the mode will tell you when to come back to a study set to maximise your efficiency in learning.

It does this by predicting when you're likely to begin forgetting a card, and will bring it up in your next session. The main benefit of this is that this learning technique (of revising something when you begin to forget it, instead of daily) has been scientifically proven to be one of the optimal ways of studying and revising.

In short, Smart Learn essentially reviews how well you're doing with each individual card in a Study Set, and will customise your learning to your individual progress on a day-to-day basis!

Why Use Smart Learn over Practice Mode?

For more information on Practice Mode: What is Practice Mode?

In Learn (alongside Smart Learn), we also offer a Practice Mode - which allows you to review all of the cards in a Study Set in a single sitting.

Although reviewing all cards in a Study Set can be useful when you don't have the time for Smart Learn, Smart Learn allows for you to effectively space out your practice and greatly improve long-term memorisation of knowledge. As such, Smart Learn is a more effective long-term method of revision, it's amazing for people who want to regularly and continuously learn a topic over a longer timeframe - but we can definitely appreciate that sometimes you need that last-minute cramming session before a big exam (which is where Practice Mode can shine).
