Back up and restore your library manually

It's good practice to back up your entire library occasionally — especially before a major event such as resetting a device, updating your OS, or switching devices — so you're prepared if documents are lost.

Please note: On Apple devices, Auto Backup now runs less often by default (about every 12 hours in the background) to save battery and data. Manual Backup is still the fastest way to create a full library backup right away. You can also increase Auto Backup frequency in Cloud & Back up Status > Cloud & Backup Settings.

Back up your library

  1. Open the Goodnotes menu (top-right corner of Library view) > Cloud & Backup > Manual Backup > Back Up Now.
  2. Select a safe location for the backup .zip file.

Important: Keep Goodnotes open in the foreground until the backup finishes. If you close the app, the backup must be restarted.

Restore your library from a Goodnotes backup

Restore a backup by importing that .zip file into Goodnotes.
