Use Goodnotes on macOS

Important: Goodnotes for macOS requires macOS 15.7 or later. Most iPhone and iPad features are available on Mac, but touch-focused tools such as Zoom Window are not available.

Can I install Goodnotes on an older macOS version?

No. The current Goodnotes release requires macOS 15.7 or later. Check Goodnotes system requirements and device compatibility before installing or updating the app.

Select text in an imported PDF

  1. Open the PDF in Goodnotes.
  2. Select the pen or keyboard icon at the top of the document to enter read-only mode.
  3. Drag across the PDF text to select it.

Open a hyperlink in an imported PDF

In read-only mode, select the hyperlink. In edit mode, press and hold the link, then select “Open Link”.

Can I import Word or PowerPoint files?

Direct import of Word and PowerPoint files is not supported in Goodnotes for macOS. Convert the file to PDF before importing it.

Why is Zoom Window unavailable on Mac?

Zoom Window is designed for writing on a touch screen and is not available on macOS.

Can I use a drawing tablet?

You can use a drawing tablet with Goodnotes for macOS, but input performance may be less responsive than writing on an iPad.
