Use Scribble in Goodnotes

Scribble is an Apple feature that converts Apple Pencil handwriting into typed text in supported text fields.

Important: Scribble uses Apple’s handwriting technology, not Goodnotes handwriting recognition. Apple controls its availability and supported languages.

In supported fields, “Scribble will work out of the box in Goodnotes.”

Use Scribble

  1. Select a text field, such as a document title, search bar, outline item, or text box.
  2. Write in the field with Apple Pencil.
  3. Review the typed text created by Scribble.

Check language support

Changing the recognition language in Goodnotes does not change Scribble.

If Scribble does not work

  1. Confirm that Scribble is enabled in Apple Pencil settings.
  2. Check that Apple supports the selected language.
  3. Try Scribble in another Apple text field.
  4. If it fails outside Goodnotes, contact Apple Support. If it fails only in Goodnotes, contact Goodnotes Support with the device model, system version, and affected field.
