Scribble is an Apple feature that converts Apple Pencil handwriting into typed text in supported text fields.
Important: Scribble uses Apple’s handwriting technology, not Goodnotes handwriting recognition. Apple controls its availability and supported languages.
In supported fields, “Scribble will work out of the box in Goodnotes.”
Use Scribble
- Select a text field, such as a document title, search bar, outline item, or text box.
- Write in the field with Apple Pencil.
- Review the typed text created by Scribble.
Check language support
Changing the recognition language in Goodnotes does not change Scribble.
If Scribble does not work
- Confirm that Scribble is enabled in Apple Pencil settings.
- Check that Apple supports the selected language.
- Try Scribble in another Apple text field.
- If it fails outside Goodnotes, contact Apple Support. If it fails only in Goodnotes, contact Goodnotes Support with the device model, system version, and affected field.
