Goodnotes Terms and Conditions FAQ

This FAQ applies to Goodnotes on all supported platforms and summarizes common questions about the Goodnotes Terms and Conditions, including account requirements, content ownership, service limits, account termination, and rights for customers in the European Union.

This plain-language FAQ cannot replace the applicable Terms and Conditions, which remain the governing agreement between you and Goodnotes.

What is the purpose of the Terms and Conditions?

The Terms and Conditions form a binding agreement between you and Goodnotes. They explain the terms under which Goodnotes provides access to its services, features, and functionality.

Do I need an account to use Goodnotes?

Some Goodnotes features are available without an account, including viewing and editing shared content. You need to create an account to use additional features, such as saving notebooks or accessing advanced tools.

Do I own the intellectual property in my notebooks and documents?

Yes. You retain ownership of the intellectual property in your notebooks and documents. To provide the service, Goodnotes receives a limited license to access, store, and process your content only as required to deliver Goodnotes services.

What intellectual property rights do I receive with Goodnotes services?

Goodnotes retains the intellectual property rights associated with its services, including trademarks, copyrights, service marks, and other proprietary rights protected by laws worldwide.

Can Goodnotes limit my use of a feature?

Some services, including Goodnotes AI and Goodnotes Cloud, may have fair-usage limits so that access remains equitable. Where necessary, access may be restricted or adjusted. Check the pricing page and your account settings for information about your current usage limits.

Does Goodnotes use my content to train AI features?

Goodnotes does not access or collect data from your notebooks for AI training. If you voluntarily submit Feature Feedback or choose to share your conversation history, Goodnotes may use that submitted information to improve its services.

How old must I be to create a Goodnotes account?

You must be at least 16 years old. A parent or guardian can create an account for a younger person after reading and agreeing to the Terms on the child’s behalf.

How should I protect my Goodnotes account?

Keep your account credentials secure and report suspected unauthorized access promptly. Goodnotes is not liable for unauthorized access caused by a failure to secure account credentials.

How can I report illegal or infringing content?

Submit a Takedown Request if content violates the Terms and Conditions or infringes legal rights, including rights covered by the Online Safety Act or Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

See the Takedown Policy and Takedown Requests Notice for more information.

When can Goodnotes terminate my account?

Goodnotes may terminate an account for breaching the Terms, harming others, or failing to meet payment obligations. An account may also be terminated after two years of inactivity following the end of a paid subscription.

If an account remains inactive for more than two years, data stored in Goodnotes Cloud will be deleted. Goodnotes sends reminders before deletion so you can download and back up your data or renew your subscription. Data stored locally on your device or in iCloud is not affected.

Goodnotes EU Supplemental Terms FAQ

What are the EU Supplemental Terms?

The EU Supplemental Terms modify and supplement the general Terms and Conditions for customers residing in the European Union. They provide additional provisions and clarifications that apply in the EU.

How do the EU Supplemental Terms differ from the general Terms?

The EU Supplemental Terms take precedence over certain provisions in the general Terms to comply with EU-specific laws. These include provisions about service termination and changes, liability limits, governing law, jurisdiction, and the right of withdrawal.

Can I cancel my subscription if Goodnotes changes its services?

If you use a paid version of Goodnotes, you will receive 30 days’ notice of significant changes to the Terms. If a change materially affects your rights, you can cancel within 30 days and may receive a proportional refund for the unused part of your subscription.

How does Goodnotes handle liability under the EU Supplemental Terms?

Goodnotes limits its liability for slightly negligent breaches. This limit does not apply to injury to life, limb, or health. Liability for gross negligence or intentional harm remains unaffected.

Which law governs the EU Supplemental Terms?

The Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Mandatory consumer-protection laws in an EU customer’s country of residence also apply.

How do I exercise my right of withdrawal?

You can withdraw from your contract within 14 days without giving a reason. The withdrawal period starts when Goodnotes receives your withdrawal notice in text form.

  1. Submit the Right to Withdraw form, email support@goodnotesapp.com, or send your request by post to the Goodnotes office in London.
  2. If you email, use the subject “Right to Withdraw Request – [date]”.
  3. Include the purchase date, customer name or names, country of residence, and a copy of the receipt.

In some circumstances, you may consent to waive the right of withdrawal when it cannot be provided. Goodnotes will tell you before completing a purchase that is not eligible for withdrawal.

For questions outside the EU Supplemental Terms, refer to the full Terms and Conditions or contact Goodnotes Support.
