What is the purpose of the Privacy Policy?
This policy sets out how we safeguard our users’ privacy and personal data. We value your trust and are dedicated to being transparent about how we handle your personal data.
What personal information does Goodnotes collect?
We collect, information that may include:
- Basic personal data such as first name, family name, email address, country and your language; in order to resolve support requests and issues, we may ask you to export and send us diagnostic data of your app including the titles of your documents, folders, and imported files e.t.c.; and
- Any additional information that you choose to share through the Goodnotes services which may be considered personal data.
We do not collect special categories of personal data, which refers to data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic and biometric data, or data concerning health, sex life or sexual orientation.
Do you share my data for advertising purposes?
No, we do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.
How does Goodnotes use my personal data?
We only use your personal data as set out in our Privacy Policy and always in accordance with applicable data protection laws in your region. This includes but is not limited to the EU GDPR together with the UK GDPR which has been incorporated into UK domestic law. For our US users, we process personal data in accordance with California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act and the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act.
How does Goodnotes protect my privacy and keep my information secure?
Goodnotes believes in data privacy and Goodnotes application, products and services are built with privacy in mind. We are fully committed to meeting the high standards set by data protection laws which we follow in both wording and spirit. Additionally, we have implemented strict technical and organisational measures to ensure data security.
Can Goodnotes view my notebooks or documents?
No, Goodnotes does not have access to your notes or documents. Your privacy matters to us as much as it does to you. Therefore, we don’t access or collect data from your notebooks or documents without your permission. We only use limited, anonymised data to improve our services and meet legal obligations.
Who do you disclose my data to?
A list of third parties we share your data with can be found in section 3 of our Privacy Policy. When sharing your data with third parties we always conduct audits of their data protection and cyber security policies so that they meet our high standards, and we enter binding agreements with these parties to protect your data.
Does Goodnotes use anonymised end-user data, and if so how do they use it?
We may collect statistical data on our user base and how they interact with the Goodnotes services. This allows us to track how our app performs, whether there may be technical issues and measure the number of visitors we have. We anonymise data by using unique identifiers which are linked to user accounts but do not contain any personal data.
When I am using Goodnotes AI, does Goodnotes collect my data?
No, we do not collect any of your personal data when you use Goodnotes AI features. You may voluntarily submit data through our ‘Feature Feedback’ as detailed in section 1.2.6 of our terms and conditions here. However, we will always ask for your explicit consent before doing so. I am an Enterprise User, do I need to communicate this policy to our end-users?
Yes, Enterprise Users are what is known as data controllers; under applicable data protection laws, data controllers are required to provide information to people whose personal data you hold and use. Therefore, you must ensure that the privacy policy has been communicated with your end users. For the purposes of our privacy policy Enterprise Users include educational institutions, businesses and enterprises.
Is Goodnotes HIPAA Compliant?
Goodnotes Services are not intended for use by covered entities (as such term is defined in the HIPAA) for the transmission of Protected Health Information (as defined by HIPAA, 45 C.F.R. § 160.103), nor intended for the transmission of sensitive personal information (as defined by the CCPA, Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140(ae), as amended) such as payment card or financial information (except when making a purchase), so please do not share this information with us.
What should California and Virginia residents know about their privacy rights?
California and Virginia residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA). These include access to personal data, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of certain data uses.
