If you’ve accidentally deleted the Goodnotes app from your iOS device, don’t worry — you may be able to recover your documents and custom templates if you have a backup. Here’s how you can restore your data using Cloud Sync, Auto Backup, or an iCloud Device Backup.
Restore Your Notebooks from iCloud Sync
Let’s see if you have Goodnotes data stored in iCloud:
- Open Settings on your iPad.
- Tap on Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage.
- If GoodNotes is listed there, you can head back to the app.
- Go to the Goodnotes menu > Cloud & Backup > Cloud Sync, and enable Use iCloud to Sync Documents. Your data should start appearing in your library.
Restore Your Notebooks from Goodnotes Cloud Sync
If you’re using GoodNotes Cloud for syncing:
- To check if you have GoodNotes Cloud as your sync option, go to the Goodnotes menu > Cloud & Backup > Cloud Sync
- If you see Goodnotes Cloud listed, just enable it. Your data should start appearing in your library.
Restore Your Notebooks from Auto Backup
If you had Auto Backup enabled, you can easily find your notes in your cloud storage:
- Check if you have Auto Backup enabled by going to Goodnotes menu > Cloud & Backup > Automatic Backup.
- Check your chosen cloud storage for your notes, and re-import them as needed.
Restore from iCloud Device Backup
If you didn’t set up iCloud sync within Goodnotes, no worries! You might still have a device backup:
- Open the Settings app > Apple ID > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
- Look for the “Last successful backup” date to see if it’s earlier than when the issue occurred.
- If there’s a list of backups, tap one to check if it includes your Goodnotes data. If it does, please restore your device from that backup as soon as possible!
Important Note
If you don't have a proper backup as mentioned above, Goodnotes team can't help retrieve the lost data for you due to privacy concerns.
