If you see "Content Unavailable" or "The folder contents could not be displayed because of an unknown error" when importing from OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive on an Apple device, use this article to fix the import.
Important: This usually comes from the iOS/iPadOS Files app and the cloud storage connection, not from Goodnotes alone. The same error can appear in Files and in other apps that use Files.
Please note: These steps apply on Apple devices that use the Files interface (especially iPad). The screenshot below shows what the error can look like.
Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or iPad first. This often resets the cloud storage connection used by Files.
- Restart your device.
- Open Goodnotes again.
- Try importing from cloud storage once more: New… > Import from Library view, then browse the cloud folder.
Import with Split View instead
If the error is still there, import by dragging files from the cloud storage app into Goodnotes with Split View.
- Make sure the cloud storage app (such as OneDrive or Dropbox) is on the Dock.
- Open Goodnotes and go to Library view (Documents).
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the Dock.
- On the Dock, touch and hold the cloud storage app, then drag it to the left or right edge of the screen to open Split View.
- Drag a file from the cloud storage app into the Goodnotes window to import it.
- To import multiple files: while holding one file, tap other files with another finger to add them to the selection, then release.
Share the file from the cloud storage app
As another workaround:
- Open the cloud storage app (OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive).
- Find the file you want.
- Use Share (or a similar command) and choose Goodnotes.
If you still can't import
If Split View and Share still fail, try the same import in the Files app on its own. If Files also shows "Content Unavailable," fix the cloud storage connection in Files or the cloud app first, then try Goodnotes again. For other import issues, see Import files into Goodnotes.
