Google Drive sign-in window doesn't stay open for Auto Backup

When you try to sign in to Google Drive for Auto Backup, the Google sign-in window may close before you can enter your account details. Signing in to other cloud storage options, such as OneDrive or Dropbox, may still work.

Important: This is a known issue we are investigating. If you try the Offload App steps on iPhone or iPad, do not delete or remove Goodnotes. Offload keeps your documents on the device; deleting the app can remove local data. Make a Manual Backup first.

Restart your device

  1. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Open Goodnotes and try signing in to Google Drive for Auto Backup again.

Offload and reinstall Goodnotes (iPhone or iPad)

If the sign-in window still closes:

  1. Create a Manual Backup of your notes.
  2. On your device, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage or iPad Storage.
  3. Tap Goodnotes.
  4. Tap Offload App. Wait until offloading finishes. Do not choose Delete App.
  5. Tap Reinstall App.
  6. Open Goodnotes and confirm your library is back, then try Google Drive Auto Backup sign-in again.

Reinstall the Google Drive app

Reinstalling Google Drive can reset how it works with other apps on your device.

  1. Delete the Google Drive app from your device, then reinstall it from the App Store.
  2. Open Goodnotes and try Auto Backup sign-in for Google Drive again.

Check Safari cookie settings

The Google sign-in window can fail if Safari is blocking cookies or holding stale website data.

  1. Go to device Settings > Safari.
  2. Turn off Block All Cookies if it is on.
  3. Optionally tap Clear History and Website Data.
  4. Return to Goodnotes and try signing in to Google Drive for Auto Backup again.

If you still cannot sign in to Google Drive

Use another cloud storage option for Auto Backup, such as OneDrive or Dropbox, and keep making regular Manual Backups until Google Drive sign-in works again.
