This troubleshooting guide applies to iCloud Sync on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The alert can appear on only some devices even when Goodnotes seems up to date.
The reset cannot preserve access to shared documents, so update every device and create a backup first. The alert can say “app version is out of date”.
Before resetting iCloud data, create a Manual Backup on the device where your library is up to date.
Deleting Goodnotes data from iCloud does not delete the local library on your device. It removes access to shared documents, which must be shared again manually.
Check for Goodnotes updates
- Open the Goodnotes App Store page on every device using iCloud Sync.
- If you see Update, install the update.
- If you see Open, that device has the latest version currently available from the App Store.
Reset Goodnotes data in iCloud
If the alert continues after every device is updated, remove the Goodnotes data stored in iCloud.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the device Settings app.
- Select Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Goodnotes.
- Select Delete Data, then confirm.
On Mac
- Open System Settings.
- Select Apple Account > iCloud.
- Select Manage beside Account Storage.
- Select Goodnotes > Delete All Data, then confirm.
Upload your documents again
- Return to Goodnotes on each device.
- Choose the option to upload your data to iCloud again.
- Keep Goodnotes visible and each device awake until syncing finishes.
You may see “!” icons on Library items while they sync. A large library can take several hours to finish syncing.
