Empty margins or shrunken content on printouts usually occur when the Goodnotes page size differs from the paper size. Make sure the Goodnotes pages and printing paper use the same size.
This article applies only to notebooks created in Goodnotes. An imported PDF cannot be resized within the app.
Match the page and paper sizes
For example, when printing A4-sized pages, use A4 paper. If you only use A4 paper, make sure every Goodnotes page you print is also A4-sized.
Change the template size
- Open the Goodnotes page.
- Tap the More (...) icon in the top-right corner, then tap Change Template.
- Choose the intended size from the first dropdown list.
- Tap a paper template to apply the change.
Selecting a paper size without tapping a paper template will not apply the change. A size mismatch can produce shrunken or truncated printouts.
Understand the Print Preview
AirPrint on iOS and iPadOS offers limited paper-size options. Support for additional printing preferences depends largely on your printer.
Before you select a printer, the Print Preview in Printer Options assumes that each Goodnotes page will be printed on paper of the corresponding size.
For example, if a document contains A3, A4, and A5 pages, the preview assumes that page 1 will use A3 paper, page 2 will use A4 paper, and page 3 will use A5 paper.
After you select a printer, the default paper size is Letter unless your printer supports changing it. To match the preview, the Goodnotes pages must therefore be Letter-sized.

Print an imported PDF at the intended size
- Resize the original PDF outside Goodnotes, perhaps using an online tool.
- Import the resized PDF into Goodnotes.
- Add your annotations, then print the document using paper that matches the PDF size.
