Certain PDFs, like e-books, have outlines that allow you to quickly navigate to specific sections of that document. An outline is basically a hidden table of contents that can be viewed in most PDF viewers. If you import such a PDF into Goodnotes, you'll see its outline too. What's even better is you can create your own outline for any document!
Add pages to the outline
There are two ways to add a page to the outline:
a) Open that page and open the More (...) menu in the top-right corner, then choose Add Page to Outline.
b) Open the Thumbnail view, tap the down-arrow under the thumbnail of that page, then choose Add Page to Outline.
You will then be asked to name the outline item.
View the outlines, including the PDF outline
Open the Thumbnail view and tap the Outlines tab. You can tap an outline item to jump to the corresponding page.
Delete or rename outline items
To delete or rename an outline item in the Outlines tab, swipe left on the item and choose the minus icon to delete it, or the other icon to rename it. Alternatively, long-press on the item and choose Delete or Rename.
Goodnotes does not support deleting outlines from imported PDFs. However, you can filter your outlines to exclude PDF Outlines so that only your custom outlines show up.
Tips & Tricks
- Pages can be added to the Outline multiple times and thus can have more than one label. You can use this to tag pages in your documents.
- Outline Items are Searchable from the Search tab in the Library or from within the document.
