If you see a message that your Whiteboard is approaching its limit, you might wonder how an "infinite" Whiteboard can get full. This article explains what board limits are, what counts toward them, and how to keep your workspace running smoothly.
Please note: Every Whiteboard has a maximum content limit. The canvas space is endless, but each pen stroke, image, and text box uses memory. Goodnotes enforces this limit so your boards stay responsive and lag-free.
What counts toward the board limit
Everything you add to a Whiteboard counts toward its limit, including:
- Pen strokes and highlighter marks
- Text boxes
- Shapes
- Stickers
- Images
What to do when your board is nearing its limit
When you approach the limit, try one of these three approaches:
Remove unneeded content
Just like a physical whiteboard, digital ones can get cluttered with old drafts, duplicate images, or stray notes. A quick clean-up can often free up a surprising amount of space.
- Use the Lasso tool to select large areas of content you no longer need.
- Tap Delete.
Split into multiple boards
Breaking a large project into smaller, focused boards helps you stay organized and keeps Goodnotes running smoothly. Think of it as moving from one giant scroll to a well-organized set of chapters.
If your board covers multiple topics, project phases, or meetings, it is a good candidate for splitting.
- Create a new, empty board by going to Sidebar > Boards and tapping the + icon.
- Copy and paste content from your full board to the new one.
Export and archive old boards
Export a board as a PDF to keep a permanent copy in your files or cloud storage, then delete the original to free up active space in Goodnotes.
- Open the board you want to archive.
- Tap the Share & Export icon.
- Choose Export This Board and select PDF.
- After you save the PDF, you can safely delete the original board from your active list.
