ℹ️ Note: This is an experimental feature and it is rolling out in phases; even if you're eligible, you might not have immediate access to it yet.
The Goodnotes Planner can show your Google Calendar events directly on your planner pages, so you can see your schedule and take notes without leaving Goodnotes.
Availability and Requirements
- Requires a Goodnotes Pro plan on Apple platforms only
- Supports Google Calendar
- The planner template comes in both Monday-start and Sunday-start variants, and it’s available in US English only, for now.
- Syncs your primary calendar only; secondary calendars aren't shown
- Read-only: you can't create, edit, or delete calendar events from Goodnotes
- Initial sync covers about a year of events; individual days refresh in the background as you open them
ℹ️ Why eligibility can be gated
- You can have entitlement to the calendar integration itself — it's available on other subscription tiers, not just Pro.
- The Goodnotes Planner document that displays those events is available to Pro users only.
- Even as a Pro user, access to seeing events on the planner isn't automatic: because of the phased rollout (which includes a holdout group), some eligible Pro users will need to wait longer before they get access.
Quick Start Guide
-
Download this Goodnotes planner from the Marketplace: Planner with Google Calendar integration.
- Open the planner and follow the guide on pages 1 and 2 to connect your calendar and interact with the calendar events.
View Your Calendar Events in the Planner
Once connected, your primary Google Calendar events appear automatically on the matching day and time in your calendar planner template.
- Events show your response status: accepted, declined, maybe, pending, or alert (shown when most other guests have declined).
- All-day events and events that span multiple days appear in their own area of the page.
- Tap an event to select it and see more options.
- On days with many overlapping events, tap See other events to view just that cluster.
ℹ️ Events are shown in your device's system time zone and automatically shift if you change time zones.
The planner doesn't show birthday, working location, or Gmail-generated events. Out-of-office and focus-time events appear with their own styling.
Sync Your Calendar Manually
Your planner refreshes events in the background as you open different days, but you can also refresh on demand.
-
On any planner page, tap the sync button in the top-right corner.
- Goodnotes fetches the latest events and shows the time of the last sync.
Take Notes for an Event
- Tap the event on your planner page.
- Choose the button that reads either Create a new note for event, or Open the note for event.
-
Create a new note for event*:* You will see this button if a note for that event doesn’t exist yet. Goodnotes will offer options to create a note linked to the event: a regular notebook, a Whiteboard Document, or a Text Document.
ℹ️ Event-linked notes are created in the folder path Calendar Event > {Event Name} > {Event Name} {Date}.
- Open the note for event: You will see this button if a linked note already exists. Goodnotes will simply open it.
-
- Take your notes for the event.
Disconnect Your Calendar
-
Open the More (…) menu of any event > Disconnect.
💡 You can also open Goodnotes menu > Integrations > Integrate Google Calendar > Disconnect.
ℹ️ Disconnecting removes all events from your planner. Notes you already created from calendar events stay in your library and on their planner pages, but they're no longer linked to the original event.
Sharing and Collaboration
Calendar events are only visible to you, the planner's owner.
- If you share your calendar planner with someone else, they see your manual notes and annotations, but not your calendar events, even if they have their own calendar connected.
- If you transfer ownership of the document, your events stop appearing. The new owner needs to connect their own calendar to see their events.
