Why don’t color palettes sync across writing tools?

Each writing tool in Goodnotes has its own color set. The affected tools are Pen, Pencil, Highlighter, Tape, and Draw Shape.

Adding, changing, reordering, removing, or resetting a color for the selected tool does not apply that change to the other tools.

How color sets work

Each writing tool shows three color presets by default and supports up to 12 preset slots. For the selected tool, you can choose a color from the Custom palette or color wheel, or enter a HEX value.

Choosing Settings > Restore Color Sets to Original resets the selected tool’s color set only. It does not reset the palettes for other tools.

Use the same color with another tool

  1. Select the first writing tool and open its color options.
  2. Select Custom, then note or copy the color’s HEX value.
  3. Select the other writing tool and open its color options.
  4. Select Custom and enter the same HEX value.
  5. Repeat these steps for each tool that should use the color.
