Erase Highlighting Without Deleting Handwriting

To remove highlighting while keeping handwriting, enable “Erase Highlighter Only” in the Eraser Tool settings.

You cannot preserve handwriting with this workflow unless this setting is enabled.

Erase only highlighting

1. Select the Eraser Tool.
2. Select the Eraser Tool again to open its settings.
3. Enable Erase Highlighter Only.
4. Drag the eraser across the highlighting you want to remove.

If handwriting is still being erased

1. Confirm that Erase Highlighter Only is still enabled.
2. Select Undo to restore any handwriting removed by mistake.
3. Try erasing a small part of the highlight again.
