Erase handwriting and page content with the Eraser tool

Use the Eraser tool to remove handwriting, Pen, Pencil, Highlighter, and Tape strokes. You can erase part of a stroke, erase a complete stroke, erase only highlighter, or clear all content from a page.

Important: The Eraser tool cannot remove typed text, PDF text, images, scans, or other non-stroke objects. Use the Lasso tool to select and delete supported objects instead.

Erase handwriting and other strokes

Select the Eraser tool.
Select the first icon in the active tool menu.
Choose an eraser style.
Drag over the handwriting or strokes you want to remove.

Eraser styles in the active tool menu

Precision Eraser: Removes only the content inside the erasing circle. Use it for detailed changes.
Standard Eraser: Removes a small segment from a continuous stroke.
Stroke Eraser: Removes an entire continuous stroke at once.

Erase only highlighter or another stroke type

Use “Erase Filter” to erase selected stroke types while leaving other content untouched.

Erase Filter options for Pen, Pencil, Highlighter, and Tape

Select the Eraser tool to open its options.
Select Erase Filter.
Enable the content type you want to remove: Pen, Pencil, Highlighter, or Tape.
Disable the content types you want to keep.
Erase over the page. Only the enabled stroke types are removed.

To erase only highlighting, enable Highlighter and disable Pen, Pencil, and Tape.

Clear all content from a page

Use “Clear Page” to remove the content from the current page while keeping the page in your document.

Select the Eraser tool.
Open the Eraser options.
Select Clear Page.

Important: Clear Page removes content from the page. It does not move the page itself to the Trash Bin.

Erase images, typed text, or other objects

The Eraser tool works on supported strokes only. To remove typed text, text boxes, images, or other selectable objects:

Select the Lasso tool.
Select the object you want to remove.
Select Delete from the Object Menu.

PDF text and content that is part of an imported PDF page cannot be erased with the Eraser tool.

Switch back to your previous tool automatically

Enable Auto-Deselect in the Eraser options to return to your last-used tool when you lift your stylus.
