You can add images to your notes in Goodnotes in a few different ways. Follow the steps in this article to see how to use the Image Tool to import images from your device and copy and paste images from elsewhere or on the web.
Use the Image Tool
By tapping anywhere on the page
- Select the Image Tool from the Toolbar
- Select an image you want to add from "Photos" or "Insert from..." and choose from your Files.
- Once inserted, you can move the Image to desired location.
Paste an image to a Goodnotes page
1. Copy that image to the clipboard: Long-press it and tap Copy.
2. Long-press on a Goodnotes page and choose Paste.
Note: For iOS users, you can also copy image from a web page. Not all images from the web can be copied, as some contain copyrighted material and will only add a URL to the image to your clipboard. Unfortunately, this is not something that Goodnotes can change, but is dependent on the website that is hosting that image.
Cropping an image
Once you have imported an image, you can crop it with these steps:
1. Choose the Image tool and tap on the image to bring up more options. Alternatively, long-press on the image and select Crop.
2. If choosing Rectangle, drag one or more of the handles to adjust the cropping. If choosing Freehand, you can freely draw contours to crop the image.
3. Tap Done.
Add an image to your Elements
1. Add any image you like to your document.
2. For iOS: Tap on the image twice to bring up the options pop-up. Then choose Add Element. For Android, Windows, and Web: Use Lasso tool to choose the image and then tap on image and choose Add Element.
3a. Tap an existing collection to add the element to.
OR
3b. Choose New Collection..., name it, and tap Create. You're recommended to use descriptive names for your Collections (e.g. signatures, stickers) so that you can easily find an element later.

Add an image as a whole page
Goodnotes allows you to add a single image as a whole page in order to annotate it:
- Tap the Add page icon on the right-hand side of the Nav Bar in Document View.
- If necessary, tap Before, After, or Last Page to indicate where the new image will be in relation to the current page.
- Tap Image, then select an image from Photos.
