Create external and internal links

Note: This article is about creating links in your notes. For navigating PDF links, see Navigate PDF Hyperlinks

Links let you connect your notes to external websites or to other documents in your Goodnotes library. You can add links to text in textboxes, stickers, and shapes to make your notes more interactive and organized.

Create a link in a Notebook, Whiteboard

  1. Select the text you want to link.
  2. Tap the Link icon from the Object Menu, or press Cmd+K / Control+K on the keyboard.
  3. Choose what to link to:
    • Website: Enter or paste a URL
    • Document: Select a Notebook or Whiteboard from your library, then select a specific page

ℹ️ Internal links are currently supported in regular notebooks and whiteboards only. They are not supported in Text Documents or Study Sets.

  1. Apply the change:
    • In Goodnotes for Android, Windows, and Web, tap the checkmark to confirm.
    • In Goodnotes for iOS/macOS, simply tap outside the popover.

The linked text will appear underlined.

ℹ️ In a Text Document, you can add only external links by selecting text, tapping Link, entering a URL, and then double-tapping the linked text to edit, follow, or remove the link.

Open / Copy / Edit a link

  1. Select the linked text and tap the Link icon.
  2. Select an action:
    • [URL]: Open the link.
    • Copy Link: Copy the link.
    • Edit Link: Update the properties of the link, or remove it entirely.

ℹ️ When you paste a URL directly onto your page, it will appear as plain text. To make it clickable, select the text and follow the steps above to add it as a link.
