Create links from typed text to websites or to pages in other documents in your Goodnotes library. These steps apply to Goodnotes on Apple, Android, Windows, and Web; where the confirmation step differs, both options are shown.

Create links in notebooks and whiteboards
- Select the typed text you want to link.
- Select Link in the Object Menu, or press Command-K on macOS or Control-K on other platforms.
- Select Link Settings, then choose a destination:

Website: Enter or paste a complete web address.

Document: Select a notebook or whiteboard from your library, then select a page.

Website: Enter or paste a complete web address.
- Confirm the link:
- On Android, Windows, or Web, select the checkmark.
- On iOS or macOS, select outside the popover.
The linked text appears underlined.
Internal links are supported in notebooks and whiteboards only. Text Documents and Study Sets support external website links, but not internal links.
Create external links in Text Documents
In a Text Document, you can link typed text to an external website.
- Select the text you want to link.
- Select Link.
- Enter or paste a complete web address.
- Confirm the link.
Open, copy, edit, or remove a link
- Select the linked text, then select Link.
- Choose an action:
- Web address: Open the link.
- Copy Link: Copy the destination.
- Edit Link: Change the destination or remove the link.
Pasting a web address directly onto a page might leave it as plain text. If it is not clickable, select the text and use the steps above to add the link.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I create internal links in GoodNotes 5?
Internal links can be created in Goodnotes 6 only, but links created in Goodnotes 6 can be opened in GoodNotes 5.
Can I link to another page in the same notebook?
Yes. You can link to a specific page in the same or another notebook or whiteboard. You cannot link to a specific section or location on a page or whiteboard.
Can I add links to handwritten text?
No. Links can be added to typed text only. You can convert handwriting to text, then add a link to the converted text.
Can I add links to images, elements, phone numbers, or email addresses?
You cannot add links directly to images or elements. Phone numbers and email addresses are not automatically converted into clickable links.
Can I link to a local file on my computer?
No. You can link to external websites or to supported documents in your Goodnotes library.
