On iPadOS, you can open more than one Goodnotes window at a time. Use Goodnotes in full screen, Slide Over, or Split View, including two Goodnotes windows side by side.
Multiple Goodnotes windows are only available on iPadOS.
Open another Goodnotes window
Drag Goodnotes from the Dock
- Open Goodnotes or another app.
- Swipe up from the bottom to show the Dock.
- Press and hold the Goodnotes icon until it lifts.
- Drag it to the side of the screen.
Drag Goodnotes from Spotlight
- With an external keyboard connected, press Command-Space.
- Search for Goodnotes.
- Start dragging the Goodnotes icon.
- Close the search results, then drop the icon at the side of the screen.
Open a document or folder from Library View
- Press and hold a document or folder thumbnail until it lifts.
- Drag it to the side of the screen.
This works from the Documents and Favorites tabs.
Open a page from Thumbnails or Favorites View
- Open a document.
- Open Thumbnails View or Favorites View.
- Press and hold a page until it lifts.
- Drag it to the side of the screen.
The page opens in another window. Each window scrolls independently.
Move a document tab to another window
- Open multiple document tabs.
- Press and hold the tab you want to move.
- Drag it to the side of the screen.
Use the Library action menu
- Select the document or folder title below its thumbnail.
- Select “Open in New Window”.

- Select the filename on the tab you want to move.
- Select Open in New Window.
Drag content between Goodnotes windows
Copy a Lasso selection
- Open two Goodnotes windows in Document View.
- Select content with the Lasso Tool.
- Drag the selection into the other window.
Copy a screenshot
- Select content with the Lasso Tool.
- Select Take Screenshot.
- Press and hold the screenshot, then drag it into the other window.
Move a folder between locations
- Open Library View in both windows.
- Open the relevant folder locations.
- Press and hold the folder, then drag it into the other window.
Copy pages between documents
- Open the source and destination documents in separate windows.
- Open Thumbnails View in both.
- Select pages in the source document.
- Press and hold a selected page until the pages form a stack.
- Drag the stack into the destination document’s Thumbnails View.
Dragging pages copies them. To complete a move, delete the still-selected pages from the source afterward.
Copy an image
- Open two Goodnotes windows in Document View.
- Press and hold an image.
- Drag it into the other window.
Add a page thumbnail as an image
- Open Thumbnails View in one document.
- Open a blank page in the other window.
- Press and hold one page thumbnail.
- Drag it onto the blank page.
The page is added as an image, so its text is not searchable. You can add only one page at a time this way.
