Apple Pencil Hover is only available on supported iPads with Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Pencil (2nd generation). It previews a Pen Tool stroke before the pencil touches the screen.
The device setting is named “Apple Pencil Hover”.
Requirements
- Apple Pencil Pro with a supported device; or
- Apple Pencil (2nd generation) with iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) or iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation).
- Apple Pencil Hover enabled under Settings > Apple Pencil.
Preview a stroke
- Open a document.
- Select the Pen Tool.
- Hold the Apple Pencil tip above the page without touching the screen.
- Review the preview, then touch the screen to apply the stroke.
Preview a tool description
- Hold the Apple Pencil tip above a tool icon without touching the screen.
- Review the tooltip describing the tool.
If you still cannot see Hover
Confirm that the iPad and Apple Pencil are supported, the device setting is enabled, and Goodnotes is up to date.
