Record audio while using other documents or apps

Goodnotes can continue recording while you view another document. On Apple, Windows, and Web, recording can also continue when you switch to another app.

Important: On Android, recording stops when you switch to a different app. Only notes made on the page where the recording started are linked to Note Replay.

Start and stop recording

  1. Open the document that should contain the recording.
  2. Open the Overflow menu and select “Record & Summarize”.
  3. Confirm that the recording control or microphone indicator appears.
  4. When finished, select Stop Recording.

View another document while recording

  1. Start recording in the intended document.
  2. Open another document from an existing tab.
  3. Check the recording indicator.
  4. Return to the original document before stopping.

Only one document records audio at a time. Notes in other documents are not linked to that recording for Note Replay.

Switch to another app

  • Apple: Recording continues. A flashing orange microphone appears in the status bar.
  • Windows and Web: Recording continues in the background.
  • Android: Recording stops when you switch apps.
