Back up documents with Audio Recordings

You can protect documents containing Audio Recordings by syncing them or creating a backup. The method and file format determine whether the recordings are included.

PDF is not supported for preserving Audio Recordings. To include recordings in an exported or backed-up document, use the Goodnotes file format.

Sync with iCloud or Goodnotes Cloud

Documents containing Audio Recordings can sync through iCloud Sync or Goodnotes Cloud. Keep Goodnotes updated on each device and allow syncing to finish before opening the document elsewhere.

Audio Recordings increase a document’s size. If you use iCloud Sync, confirm that your iCloud account has enough available storage.

Include recordings in Automatic Backup

Automatic Backup is available on iOS and iPadOS. Choose a file-format option that includes a Goodnotes file.

  1. Open the Goodnotes menu.
  2. Select Cloud & Backup > Automatic Backup.
  3. Open File Format.
  4. Select Goodnotes or Goodnotes & PDF.

Include recordings in a Manual Backup

A Manual Backup saves documents in the Goodnotes file format and includes their Audio Recordings.
