If Goodnotes closes unexpectedly while you are recording audio, reopen the app and check the document where the recording started.
Important: Goodnotes saves an audio recording when you select “Stop”. If the app or device crashes before saving finishes, some or all of the recording can be lost.
Check whether the recording was recovered
- Reopen Goodnotes.
- Open the document where you started the audio recording.
- Open the audio recording controls and check for the interrupted recording.
- If the recording appears, play it to confirm that the audio is available.
If the recording does not appear after you reopen Goodnotes, there is no manual control in the app that can restore the unsaved recording.
Reduce the risk of losing a long recording
For longer classes, meetings, or interviews, save the audio in shorter sections.
- Record the first section.
- Select Stop to save it.
- Start a new recording for the next section.
For example, you could divide a one-hour lecture into three 20-minute recordings. If Goodnotes or the device closes unexpectedly, previously saved sections remain available.
If Goodnotes crashes repeatedly while recording
Frequent crashes can be related to app performance, device resources, or document data rather than audio recording itself.
If the issue continues, contact our support team and include the device model, operating-system version, Goodnotes version, and approximate time of the crash.
