This guide applies to imports on iPad. If a file is greyed out and cannot be selected, its format is not supported for direct import into Goodnotes.
Direct import only applies to supported file formats. The final share-sheet option is “Open in Goodnotes”.
Check the formats supported by Goodnotes. Convert an unsupported file, such as an Excel file, to PDF before importing it.
Convert the file to PDF and import it
- Open the file on your iPad.
- In the external app, select Share > Print or its equivalent printing option.
- Spread two fingers apart over the Print Preview to open a PDF preview.
- Select Share > Open in Goodnotes.
If a supported file is still greyed out
- Confirm that the file has finished downloading to the Files app.
- Open the file in its original app and try the PDF conversion steps above.
- If it still cannot be imported, contact Goodnotes Support and identify the file format and source app.
If you are still unable to import a supported, fully downloaded file, contact Goodnotes Support with the file format and source app.
