Take and insert photos with the camera in Goodnotes

Use your device camera to insert a new photo onto an existing page or add the photo as a full page in your document.

Important: Taking a new photo directly in Goodnotes is not available on Windows or Web. You can still insert an existing image on those platforms.

Insert a photo onto an existing page

  1. Select the Image tool in the toolbar.
  2. Select the Camera icon.
  3. Take the photo.
  4. Select “Use Photo” to insert it onto the current page.

Add a photo as a full page

Use this option when you want the photo to become its own page so that you can annotate it.

  1. Open the document and select the Add Page icon near the top-right corner.
  2. Choose where to insert the page by selecting Before, After, or Last Page.
  3. Select Take Photo.
  4. Take the photo, then select “Use Photo”.

Allow Goodnotes to access the camera and photos

On iPhone or iPad, make sure Goodnotes has permission to use the camera. If you also want to insert photos already saved on your device, give Goodnotes Full Access or Limited Access to your photo library.

  1. Open the device Settings app.
  2. Select Apps > Goodnotes.
  3. Turn on Camera.
  4. Select Photos, then choose “Full Access” or “Limited Access”.

With Limited Access, Goodnotes can only use the photos you select.
