Use the Sidebar to move through a notebook, Text Document, or Whiteboard and manage its pages, outline, audio, or boards from one place. The tabs shown depend on the document type and its content.
Open the Sidebar
- Open a document.
- Select the Sidebar icon in the upper-left corner of Document View.
The available tabs depend on the document type and content:
- Pages: Available in notebooks.
- Outline: Available in notebooks and Text Documents.
- Audio: Available when the document contains Audio Recordings.
- Boards: Available in Whiteboards.
Manage notebook pages
Open Pages to view page thumbnails and move quickly through a notebook.
- Reorder a page: Touch and hold its thumbnail, then drag it to a new position.
- Show bookmarked pages: Select “All Pages > Bookmarks Only”.
- Manage multiple pages: Select the More (…) button, choose Select, then choose pages to copy, rotate, export, mark as seen, move, or move to Trash.
Navigate with an outline
Open Outline to jump to an outline item or manage the document outline. See Create and manage document outlines.
Review Audio Recordings
Open Audio to view and play recordings in the notebook. Select a recording to play it and access its summary or transcript.
Select the More (…) button to select recordings, choose a language, or open help resources.

Manage Whiteboard boards
Open Boards to view the boards in a Whiteboard. Select the More (…) button to select boards for export, mark them as seen, move them, or move them to Trash.

Choose Sidebar or Window view
- Open the Sidebar.
- Select the More (…) button in its upper-left corner.
- Choose to open document navigation as a Sidebar or Window.
Goodnotes saves your selection as the default view.
